The Michelin Pro Race uses the same casing as the Michelin Axial Pro except for the red puncture resistant layer. In the Axial Pro, the puncture resistant layer stretches from bead to bead. In the Pro Race it is reduced in width to match the tread strip. The Pro Race casing is more supple and rides a little smoother than the Axial Pro tire.
The Pro Race also employs a new Silicium blend for the tread that has lower rolling resistance, better cornering ability and is more resistant to nicks and cuts than the Axial Pro. All of the Michelin Pro Race models are smooth riding and responsive. They accelerate well, climb hills beautifully and corner precisely. The nylon casing is puncture resistant and extremely supple.

The Pro Race employs a four ply, mono-directional Nylon (polyamide) casing. It has a puncture resistant Nylon directly under the treadstrip. It is pictured above in red. Each Nylon layer has 42 threads per inch for each layer. The total for all three layers is 126 threads per inch.
This tire is foldable. It uses stranded Kevlar®, instead of steel wire beads, to hold the tire to your rim. Kevlar beads weigh less than steel and are stronger.

The Pro Light is identical to the Axial Pro Light for the tread color and compound. The Pro Light is 30 grams lighter and has 20% less rolling resistance than the Pro Race. It is an ideal tire for time trials and triathlons. Riders who weigh less than 170 pounds may also use the Pro Light for general riding.
For fastest times, longer life and fewer punctures you may mix tire widths. Many riders use a narrow front tire and the next wider size for a rear tire. You may mix the Pro and Pro Light tires. We do not suggest mixing tread patterns.
